The search for this hilt leads the party to the The Temple of Unathriem.

It introduces them to Varnion and eventually leads them to discover both the hilt of Corean's Vigil and Gurnath's diary.

Before they can proceed on that quest though one of the party members will be accused of a serious crime and the party will be drawn into the ongoing feud between the Baron and the Nobles that has been causing strife and division in Clearvale for the best part of a hundred years.

The manoeuvrings of the Nobles soon mean that the only recourse the party has is to appeal to the Baron directly, but he happens to be out of town.

While waiting for the Baron to return the party can do their own investigations but they will soon notice that they have been targeted for assassination and many of the younger nobles, in their hunt for personal glory, will try to pre-empt any decision the Baron might make by taking matters into their own hands.

In the pursuit of their investigation the party soon learns that a considerable sum of money seems to have changed hands. Grishelm's loud, and public, proclamation that he found 4000g hidden in the woods leads the party to discover a considerable amount of cash and a trail of evidence that seems to lead directly back to our party's accuser who, in turn, now seems to have disappeared.

Eventually the Baron does return and he is more than happy to upset the nobles by granting the party permission to leave the town and pursue their quest.
