The party arrives in the town to take part in a competition only to realise that something is amiss.

The competition has been cancelled because someone seems to have occupied the cavern where it was supposed to take place and has stolen the Home Return stones that the competition would have used.

The party decides to investigate the matter.

In the course of their investigation of the cave they face a large horde of kobolds before finally facing a kobold sorcerer and a mysterious figure that disappears in through a portal as they start the battle with the sorcerer.

During their track through the caves they come across fragments of a letter that they can re-assemble to give them some clue as to the origin of the problems.
