Travelling outside the town of Clearvale the party discovers a dying man. All attempts at healing him, magically or otherwise, fail and dying man keeps mentioning the ”Temple of Corean”.

When they take him back to the town and to the temple for healing, a strange effect takes place. The world around them seems to fade and become indistinct and the dying man speaks to them in an unnaturally clear voice.

The cleric and paladin recognise that this is not actually a dying man, but the avatar of Corean.

He says the following:

The Darkness In The Light shall sit upon Corean's Throne,
Master of all he surveys,
The land will fall to darkness,
His reign will sweep the people from the land like a plague,
There is but one hope,
Vardric's Demise, wielded by the False Fool revealed,
Reforged by the Ill-Assorted Companions that revealed the prophecy,
Must strike down the Darkness in the Light as he Approaches his Throne.

The moment the prophecy is spoken all sound and action returns, and the body of the dying man vanishes. The party soon discover that only they and the High Priest of the Temple of Corean heard the prophecy spoken.

Some research by the party soon leads them to discover who Vardric is that leads them to identify what Vardric's Demise is.

Research in the town reveals only a rumour that suggests the hilt may reside in an abandoned temple.
