Vardric, near the end of the Titan War, was a Coreanic paladin who turned to evil and unleashed a reign of terror on the people of Clearvale. He raided all the outlying settlements, attacked travellers and sought out dangerous and powerful places and artifacts to amass an ever increasing amount of power and followers.

He was supported by dark magics and titan spawn and fellow paladins he had subverted to his cause; ever increasing in power until he was near unstoppable.

To finally put an end to his reign of terror the people of Clearvale appealed to Corean. Corean, through his smith avatar, forges for them a the sword Corean's Vigil, a weapon that only a powerful vigilant can wield, and only one working in Corean's interests.

With the aid of the sword, the Vigilants lead a massed army against Vardric's forces. The slaughter was immense with heavy losses on both sides. Eventually Vardric was defeated by the sword and his army shattered and broken.

The losses for the Clearvale forces though were horrific and almost all of the Vigilants that went up against Vardric were killed, including the one who wielded Corean's Vigil.

The sword was never recovered. It was rumoured that in their anger the remaining followers of Vardric shattered the sword into three parts and threw them away.
