Varnion is a ranger and companion of Baron Clearvale I.

During a campaign with his friend the Baron, Varnion was bitten by a vampire. His companions tried to prevent the transformation into a full vampire, but something went wrong. Varnion gained all the abilities of a vampire, including the thirst for blood, but retained his own mind and convictions.

Varnion does not detect as evil, yet he has all of a vampires abilities (strength, speed, endurance) and weaknesses (light) with the exception of holy symbols.

He lives deep in the forests east of Clearvale around the ruins of Unathria protecting much of Clearvale's eastern flank from incursion and keeping the were-creatures that inhabit that area in check.

The Clearvale family continue to maintain their friendship with him and guard his secret and even his existence from the people of Clearvale while providing whatever aid they can.
